When We’re Met Where We Are

Hey Reader,

My mare, Misty, has been reminding me lately how powerful it is to meet someone exactly where they are.

When she first came to me, she was inverted — her back hollow, head high, eyes wary. She carried tension in every line of her body. Distrusting. Anxious. Distant.

She didn’t want to be touched, and honestly, I didn’t blame her. She’d learned that closeness came with pressure, that being handled meant being controlled.

But over time, with choice and freedom and gentleness, something changed.

Now, Misty is relaxed and nurturing — warm, patient, giving. She leads in that beautiful way Mark Rashid calls a passive alpha: grounded, calm, quietly confident. The kind of leader who guides by presence, not push.

Watching her, I’ve been thinking about how much we humans are the same.

When we’re met where we are — not judged, not rushed — we soften too. We become more generous, more open, more real.

We give most richly when we’re true to our best self.
When we choose what really works for us — in our food, our words, our relationships — we give fuller expression to our gifts in the world.

Guarded to grounded.
That’s not just about what goes into our mouths… but what comes out of them too.

Misty’s journey mirrors what I see so often in the women and teens I work with: the shift from anxious striving to embodied trust. From living by other people’s expectations to standing quietly in their own truth.

If you’re feeling a little ungrounded lately, take a moment today to reconnect — with your breath, your body, your truth.

Ask yourself: Where might I need to meet myself where I am?

Hey Reader, As the full moon approaches this week, I’ve been reflecting on the last ten years of my life. Quietly. Honestly. With more tenderness than I expected. Ten years ago, everything changed. I left my marriage.I left the retreat farm I had poured my heart into.I left the practice I had built over nearly two decades.I followed a pull toward a truer way of living, even though it meant stepping into the unknown. I moved provinces.I rebuilt my life. And in my forties, I became a mother for...

Hey Reader, Last week a spotted eagle owl came to our door. It was beautiful — wild and silent — but clearly unwell. We tried to help, but it was too late. The owl had been poisoned, likely from agricultural chemicals nearby. Even though it didn’t survive, it left an imprint. There was something deeply humbling about having this creature come to us at the end of its life, as if to say: look at what’s happening. A few days later, I hosted a mini retreat for mothers and daughters — a gentle...

When progress stalls (and what happens next)

Hey Reader, This week I’ve been thinking about one of my clients I’ve been supporting for the past year. When we started, she was struggling with weight, low energy, and that heavy fog that makes everything feel harder than it should. With some lifestyle shifts and gentle coaching, she began to sleep better, her mood lifted, and she lost a few kilos. Then… she got stuck. It was frustrating for her — and honestly, for me too. I could feel how much she wanted change, but something deeper was...
